  1. Preheat your galley oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a shipshape mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture while alternately pouring in the milk and oil.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool before serving. This cake is best enjoyed with a mug of grog or a cup of hot cocoa.
