Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour and knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat yer oven to 450°F (230°C) and grease a baking sheet.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups warm water and baking soda.
  5. Divide the dough into pieces and roll each piece into a rope. Shape the ropes into pretzels and dip them in the baking soda water.
  6. Place the pretzels on the baking sheet, sprinkle 'em with coarse sea salt, and bake for 10-15 minutes, until they're golden brown.
  7. Brush the pretzels with melted butter and enjoy 'em while they're still warm, ye scallywags!
