  1. Preheat yer oven to 350°F (180°C)
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt
  4. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  5. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract
  6. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk
  7. Stir in the rum until well combined
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely
