Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties.
  3. Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the burger patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until desired level of doneness is reached.
  5. If adding cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking to allow it to melt.
  6. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or skillet until lightly browned.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun, then topping with lettuce, tomato, onion slices, and the top bun.
