Ingredients:
- 8 chicken legs and 4 chicken breasts (about 3 lb total)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 3 teaspoons salt, divided
- 2 teaspoons black pepper, divided
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- Cooking spray or oil spritzer
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, hot sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper. Add chicken pieces and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- In another large bowl, whisk together flour, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), and remaining 2 teaspoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper.
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Cut a round of parchment paper to fit the bottom of the air fryer basket and spray with cooking spray.
- Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off. Coat each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Working in batches, place chicken pieces in a single layer on the parchment paper in the air fryer basket. Spray chicken with oil and cook for 20 minutes, turning halfway through and spraying again with oil. Chicken is done when golden and crispy on the outside and cooked through (at least 165°F) on the inside.
- Keep chicken warm on a wire rack set over a baking sheet in a 200°F oven until ready to serve. Enjoy with your favorite sides and sauces.
