Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or round cookie cutters to cut out the donuts and donut holes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, frying a few at a time for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain and cool slightly.
- You can dust them with powdered sugar or glaze them if desired.
