Instructions:

  1. 1. Take the ribeye steaks out of the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature.
  2. 2. Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  3. 3. Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat until it is smoking hot.
  4. 4. Add the steaks to the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare (adjust timing based on desired doneness). If using garlic cloves and herbs, add them to the skillet at this point.
  5. 5. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet.
  6. 6. Once the butter has melted, tilt the skillet slightly and use a spoon to baste the steaks with the melted butter.
  7. 7. Continue to cook the steaks, flipping occasionally, and basting with the butter until they are cooked to your liking.
  8. 8. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
  9. 9. Optional: drizzle any remaining butter from the skillet over the sliced steaks for extra flavor.
  10. Enjoy your butter-basted steak!
