I have been struggling my whole life with forgiveness, and I have been studying about it.
I know most of you say Jim your the most forgiving person in the world. I really try, but I do not forget and once and a while I get all heated up about past things.
I have been reading "The Peace Giver" by James L. Ferrell.
And includes the story of David Son of Jesse and Abigail: Book 1 Samuel:25.
A very short digest of David and Abigail:
After David slew Goliath he became popular and jealous King Saul cast David out for a time.
David's popularity gathered outcasts and outlaws to him. He was camped in the pastures of a man named Nabal. And he protected his shepherds and sheep.
David Asked for food and supplies from Nabal to survive. But, Nabal Refused to
Abigail Nabal's wife came and fell on her knee's and begged forgiveness for her husbands
Abigail gave atonement for a sin/trespass. But I ask you for whom did she provide it for?
She saved her family by asking for forgivness for Nabal's deeds and besides giving David provisions, she provided David a way to escape his sin against the sinner.
The lesson here is that Sinners who trespass against others, invite sin into the offend's heart. Whether they act on those thoughts or not. Being upset or feeling betrayed is normal. As long as it is not allowed to fester into sin.
Now when I figured that out. I remembered this from the LORDS PRAYER:
Forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those whom trespass against us.
And lead us from Temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
We need to be watchful when we are hurt, slandered, or sinned against that we ourselves do not allow sin into our hearts. And forgive and let deeds of others to drive us from the spirit of the Lord.
Deep thought Saterday.
